A rice mill is a facility for food processing where paddy is converted into rice for market sale. The entire product is obtained from paddy fields, cleaned using sorting machines, milled, and processed hygienically in modern equipment and dust-free environments. Rice is one of the most preferred foods of the people in India. Thus, many rice mills carry out the processing of grains and give out various qualities of rice.
Various steps that happen in a rice mill plant are-
· Paddy procurement
The fields' paddy is gathered to be processed. Before the process starts, the paddy is once again double-checked. A staff checks the purchased paddy bag by bag and stores it in paddy milling plants. The quality of paddy is checked and stored in bags so that they can be processed further.
· Manufacturing process
A paddy pre-cleaning machine cleans the paddy before the production process begins, and the cleaned paddy is then stored in raw paddy storage bins. The stored paddy is transferred to soaking tanks made of food-grade stainless steel. The tank's water has been drained, and the wet paddy is now ready for boiling.
· Boiling-
A steam boiler does the boiling. The cooked paddy is subsequently transported via a belt conveyor to the paddy dryer to dry in a rice dryer machine and to retain a certain level of moisture in it.
· Dryer
In a rice mill dryer plant, using hot air and a paddy dryer made of food-grade stainless steel, the boiled wet paddy is dried. A heat exchanger that takes steam from the boiler to provide heat energy for the dryer. The authentic aroma of the paddy will be maintained by using a steam heat exchanger. As these heat exchangers are indirect, there is no possibility of smoky air getting into the rice dryer plant. The dried paddy can now be hulled.
· Hulling process
The paddy is cleaned again. After cleaning the paddy is moved to a dehusked called sheller. The outer covering of the paddy, the husk is removed here and is used as fuel for the boiler. The next step in whitening where bran is separated from the grain.
· Colour sorting
Black rice, yellow rice, and white belly are removed from the polished full-grain rice during sorting in a colour sorter. The rice is then transferred to the packing area.
· Packing
The processed rice is then finally packed in sacks and is ready to be sold in the market to the customers.
Thus, processing of grains from paddy to rice involves a lengthy journey and thus should be done with the best quality equipment. Rice mill dryers, parboiling machines, stainless steel belt conveyors, etc are easily available in the market and one can buy them according to their needs.
